Every vehicle used on a Malaysian road needs valid road tax. This guide covers where to check your road tax status and expiry date, what the fee is based on, how your No Claim Discount fits in, and how road tax renewal works at Key Plus.
Road tax is issued by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and recorded against your vehicle. You view it in MyJPJ, which is JPJ's own app.
Key Plus does not check road tax status for you, and there is no road tax lookup on this site. Confirming whether your road tax is still valid, and the date it runs out, is done through JPJ's own service.
After a renewal made through Key Plus, the digital road tax is viewable in the MyJPJ app within 24 hours.
Road tax fees are determined by JPJ, not by Key Plus. Three things shape the amount you are charged.
JPJ sets the fee from your vehicle's engine capacity. The fee scales with it, so a larger engine carries a higher road tax.
JPJ publishes separate rate schedules for Peninsular Malaysia and for Sabah and Sarawak, so the same vehicle is not charged the same amount everywhere.
Registration type is part of the schedule as well. It also changes how you renew: a company-registered vehicle has to be renewed at a JPJ office.
The figure for your own vehicle is the one shown on your quotation. Amounts displayed on Key Plus are indicative and follow the prevailing JPJ fee schedule.
NCD stands for No Claim Discount. It is a discount on your motor insurance premium, not on your road tax; the two are separate amounts on the same renewal.
You earn NCD by going without a claim. A clean claims record earns you a discount on your premium, and making a claim can reduce it. One exception applies if you have taken the windscreen add-on and paid its additional premium: a windscreen claim made under that add-on does not affect your NCD.
There is no NCD lookup on this site. Your insurer confirms the NCD you are entitled to when the quotation is issued, and the percentage applied is shown on your quotation alongside the premium.
NCD is one input among several. Engine capacity and the sum insured feed into the premium too.
At Key Plus, we do not offer road tax renewal services on their own. It must be processed together with an insurance renewal.
Road tax renewal is offered as an option when you renew your motor insurance or takaful with us. The road tax amount and any handling fee are itemised in your quotation before you pay.
Some vehicles have to be renewed at a JPJ office instead: blacklisted, company-owned, e-hailing and NGV vehicles. Road tax renewal through Key Plus is not available in Sabah and Sarawak. If your vehicle is blacklisted over outstanding summonses, settle those with the relevant authorities first, because we cannot process the renewal while the blacklist stands.
Once the renewal goes through, your digital road tax is viewable in the MyJPJ app within 24 hours.
Tell us your plate number, IC number and postcode. We will send you quotations from the insurers and takaful operators we work with, and you can add road tax renewal to the one you choose.
